DISTRIBUTION OF ESSENTIAL ITEMS TO PERSONS WITH DISABILITY (PWDs) IN THE BIRIM NORTH DISTRICT.

The District Chief Executive Hon. Antwi Abdul Hakeem of Abirem Constituency and the Birim
North District Assembly have taken significant steps to uplift the lives of individuals with
disabilities through targeted distribution of essential items.
The program was graced by the presence of the District Coordinating Director, the head of social
welfare and community development department, the Assembly’s internal Auditor, other heads
of departments and the president of the Birim North Council of Chiefs Obrempong Akwasi Amo
Twretie 1who chaired the program supported by his sub chiefs.
Inclusivity and support for persons with disabilities are vital components of community
development. Recently the government rolled out a program designed to distribute vital items
such as mobility aids, educational resources and household essentials to ensure persons with
disabilities have equal access to opportunities and resources.
Items distributed includes wheelchairs, crutches, adaptive devices for the visually impaired and
startup kits for the youth to help them in businesses of various kinds such as deep freezers, bags
of charcoal,manual sewing machines, fufu pounding machines, movable welding machine,
stationery and grocery. The selection of these items were based on requests submitted by
individual persons to the Assembly.
The Distribution ceremony has garnered overwhelming approval from traditional leaders and the
community as a whole. Families of beneficiaries expressed gratitude for the assistance noting the
positive impact it would make on their lives. For many, the provision of mobility aids would
improve their ability to move freely and engage with their communities , breaking barriers that
previously hindered their participation in social events.
In addition to materials support, each individual person with disability was given transportation
fare to enable them transport items to their various destination.
Through the concerted efforts of the DCE and the Assembly, lives are being transformed and the
message is clear; empowering persons with disabilities, enable them to acquire skills that
enhance their employability and economic independence, enrich not only their lives but also the
entire community.
